A Day Off Explained: How It Feels to Have Unlimited Time
What does a day off look like for you? Whether you're winding down with a good book or deep cleaning your home, taking a break from the usual hustle and bustle is essential for both your mental and physical well-being. In this article, we'll delve into the details of what a typical day off might look like, from the early mornings to the cozy evenings.
The Early Morning Routine
For many of us, a day off begins before the sun rises. For instance, on my non-working days, Saturdays and Sundays, routine changes, but the one constant is starting the day with yoga. This early morning activity sets the tone for the rest of the day and helps to clear my mind.
Indulging in Self-Care and Finishing Home Tasks
After a yoga session, I wake up around 9 a.m. Since it's a weekend, I take the opportunity to relax and get comfortable. However, being an early riser, I still aim to make the most of the day. Post breakfast, I start my cleaning schedule, which often involves deep cleaning nooks and corners of the house. Since 2020, when I was diagnosed with OCD, I am extra sensitive to a tidy and organized environment.
By noon, I have wrapped up my tasks, and this is when I indulge in some self-care. A warm cup of ginger tea, a hot bubble bath for my feet, and a hair wash routine make up my afternoons. Post-hair wash, I focus on skincare, which has become an important part of my daily routine to manage acne and hormonal issues.
Evening Relaxation and Connection
By the evening, I am usually done with my chores and ready to unwind. Making tea for my family and gazing at the sunset on the terrace provides a sense of calm. Sometimes, after a refreshing hot shake, I read a book or prepare to watch a TV show.
Once dinner is finished, I like to take a brisk walk to clear my thoughts and feel more relaxed. Before I call it a day, I write in a journal to reflect on my emotions and set future goals. This ritual helps me to process the day and prepare for the next.
For Interns and Busy Professionals
As an intern in dental school, my non-working day looks a bit different. Aside from government holidays, we get only one day off at the end of the week. My typical day at home starts bright and early at 6:30 a.m., with an early morning mindset to tackle the tasks at hand.
Following a healthy breakfast, I jump into my cleaning routine, taking pride in maintaining a spotless home. By noon, I am usually done with my cleaning tasks and take a break for self-care, such as a soothing cup of ginger tea and a warm foot soak. After that, I attend to my skincare routine, and in the evening, I make tea for the family and connect with nature by watching the sunset.
The remainder of the day is spent journaling and contemplating my thoughts and aspirations. This routine helps me to stay grounded and set clear goals for the coming week, making the most of my day off.
