How Does it Feel to Experience Stage Hypnosis?
The concept of getting hypnotized by someone often requires experiencing it rather than trying to explain it.
Unique Experiences for Everyone
Everyone's experience of stage hypnosis is unique. The depth and quality of the experience depend on the volunteer's state of mind, whether they are relaxed or nervous, the amount of trust they have in the hypnotist, and their concentration level. If a volunteer fully concentrates, allows themselves to completely flow, and embraces the wonderful sensations, they may feel as if everything suggested, including emotions and feelings, appears real.
Once the session is over, the body and mind can feel rejuvenated, as if they had a good night's sleep, even if it was for a short period. Positive suggestions planted just before awakening can also have positive long-term effects, such as boosting confidence and helping individuals pursue their goals with less fear of failure.
My Personal Journey as a Volunteer
Having been a stage hypnotist for over 20 years, I have experienced what it's like to be a volunteer in a stage hypnosis performance. Multiple times, I have volunteered to experience these mesmerizing moments firsthand. Although each person is unique, my experience was quite typical of the classic volunteer. I remember very little from around the tenth minute until leaving the stage, often taking about an hour or more. My senses were highly responsive to suggestions, and I felt a little disconnected from reality for a brief period as I reoriented myself to the present. Overall, it was a good experience, marked by relaxation, calm, and a clear mind.
Choosing to Participate in a Hypnosis Stage Performance
Typically, those who choose to be part of a hypnosis stage performance are already interested in acting less inhibited. Therefore, participants generally feel comfortable being a part of the show, whatever that means to them.
The Pre-Selection Process
If you are lucky enough to pass the screening criteria of the hypnotist, you will already be in a light to moderate state of hypnosis. The hypnotist has used various methods of induction and deepening techniques to select the final group of volunteers. As your eyes are open and you are aware, you will be aware that you are on stage, with people to the right and left of you. Despite the audience, you will feel very relaxed.
As the hypnotist moves up and down the line of people, performing various skits with individuals, you will watch other volunteers falling into a deeper state of relaxation and hypnosis. Your unconscious mind begins to expect that you will do the same. At that point, because you are on stage and have passed the hypnotist's criteria, your unconscious mind is expecting to perform interesting, entertaining acts, which can sometimes seem very silly when you are awake. This is driven by the context and setting of the hypnosis stage performance.
Conclusion
Stage hypnosis involves a combination of suggestion, relaxation, and role-playing. It can be an incredibly transformative experience, both mentally and physically. By understanding the process and the mindset required, you can prepare yourself to fully embrace and enjoy the journey of stage hypnosis.
For those interested in experiencing stage hypnosis, there are several key benefits. These include boosting confidence, reducing stress, and gaining a deeper understanding of the power of suggestion. However, it's important to choose a reputable hypnotist and ensure the environment is safe and conducive to a positive experience.
