The Dark Side of ARMY: What I Hate About the Fandom

Throughout my journey as a part of the ARMY, I have encountered several instances and aspects within the fandom that I genuinely dislike. In this article, I will outline the major issues that bother me, aiming to encourage a more respectful and mature approach within the community.

TOXIC AND OBLŠ˜IVEOUS FANS

One of the most disappointing aspects of the ARMY I've witnessed is the toxic behavior of fans who feel entitled to control their idols. While it's natural for fans to support and admire their favorite artists, it's obscenely unfair to make demands that invade their private lives.

For example, when rumours surfaced about Jungkook dating his tattoo artist, some deeply troubled fans resorted to self-harm and vicious online attacks against both Jungkook and the tattoo artist. This incident not only disrupted the idols' peace but also serves as a stark reminder of how these seemingly harmless fans can spiral into destructive behavior.

Another case involves a fan who attempted to kiss Suga. Sentimental and misguided, Suga naturally pushed her away to protect his personal space. Fans like these often fail to realize that their actions are harmful and embarrassing, not to mention disrespectful. It's crucial to understand that fan duties do not extend to interfering with an idol's personal choices.

DISGUSTING FANFICTION

While not all fanfiction portrays BTS unfairly, some stories cross the line by making baseless assumptions and decidedly inappropriate scenarios. For instance, fanfics that depict members of BTS as characters in fanfiction like Taehyung and Jisoo being 18 and 21, respectively, seriously misrepresent the truth. Such fanworks can be utterly revolting and even offensive to the real members.

BTS is not a group of bad boys or rappers; they are artists who openly express love and care for their fans. Fanfictions that depict them as mafias, married to made-up characters, or engaging in pedophilic behavior through teenage fanfiction are not only misleading but also hurtful. If BTS were to read these stories, they would likely be disturbed or disgusted.

IMMATURE ARMY

Though many mature ARMY fans understand that idols have their own lives and responsibilities, there is a segment of fans who are far from mature. They often believe that their favorite member will become their "future husband" or even marry them in real life. Dreaming of such unrealistic scenarios robs them of the potential for mature relationships and goals outside the endless adoration of BTS.

For instance, some ARMY members, who range from 11 to 16 years old, view BTS as the sole focus of their youth. Their days might start with BTS content and end with the same. This mindset can lead to a lack of mental and developmental growth. If any young fans are reading this, I urge you to reconsider and embrace the wider world beyond this fandom.

BTS SOLO STANS

BTS is a group of seven members, each equally contributing to their success. However, some fans exhibit a disturbing preference, supporting only one member and demanding their presence in every performance. If they are unhappy with another member, they ask them to leave the group. This behavior is flawed not only for the fan but also for the whole group.

An equal distribution of support among the seven members is essential for the group's cohesion and success. If you cannot support all members, it's better to exit the fandom. BTS deserves the love and support of all members equally, and it's a shared responsibility of the ARMY to nurture this unity.

CALLING BTS MEMBERS UGLY

Another issue that annoys me is the constant online critique of BTS members' appearances, particularly Suga, RM, and Jungkook. These boys are far from ugly; in fact, they are considered icons of fashion and beauty among many fans. However, there are people who boldly and wrongly claim they are unattractive.

If you truly believe BTS members are ugly, it's likely due to personal bias or a lack of appreciation for their inner qualities. It's not appropriate to publicly denigrate their appearance, as they are loving and caring individuals who treasure their fans. Respecting an artist's personal choices and appearance goes a long way in maintaining a positive and respectful community.

In conclusion, while BTS fandom has embraced a shared passion and love for their idols, it's imperative to address and rectify the toxic elements that can tarnish an otherwise wonderful community. By fostering a more mature, respectful, and positive environment, we can ensure that the ARMY remains a beloved and revered group.

Final Words

Change starts with each of us. If you're part of the ARMY, consider these experiences and work towards a more respectful and mature movement. Remember, BTS is made up of seven incredibly talented individuals, and their success is a testament to their unity and brotherhood. Let's cherish this bond and promote love and acceptance within our community.
