The Distinction Between Voting for BJP and Being an Andh Bhakt

When it comes to supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and considering oneself an Andh Bhakt, there is a significant difference. An Andh Bhakt is someone who is blind to the flaws and shortcomings of the party, often demonstrating a lack of critical thinking and rationality. While I have always cast my vote for the BJP, I do not consider myself an Andh Bhakt. Here, I will explore the reasons why the two are distinct and provide examples where Andh Bhakt behavior has been evident.

Blind Devotion vs. Rational Voting

When evaluating candidates or those in power, it's crucial to maintain a balanced perspective. Those who label themselves as Andh Bhakt often exhibit parochialism and an unwillingness to acknowledge or address the drawbacks of their party. This can manifest in several ways:

Example 1: Educational Background Matters

One instance of Andh Bhakt behavior is exhibited by individuals who comment on the educational background of their leaders but suddenly dismiss it when it comes to someone else within the party. For instance, people were quick to make derogatory remarks about the educational qualifications of leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Rabri Devi. However, as soon as Smriti Irani was appointed to the HRD ministry, the same individuals praised her without question.

In such cases, when critics pointed out that Kapil Sibal was educated, their rejoinder was, "Education doesn't matter. Look at what Kapil Sibal did to the HRD ministry." This argument is not logically sound. The importance of qualifications cannot be summarily dismissed. Instead, the focus should be on the individual's capability and suitability for the role.

Example 2: Disparities in Support

Another clear example of Andh Bhakt behavior is the disparity in support for similar initiatives. When Akhilesh Yadav proposed the Humari Beti Uska Kal scheme to provide Rs. 20,000 to poor Muslim girls for their education, there was widespread outrage, especially from BJP supporters. However, when Yogi Adityanath's scheme, mass weddings for poor Muslim girls with a Rs. 20000 provision, was announced, there was little public debate or support for Muslim girls of all backgrounds equally.

Example 3: Kashmir and Alliance Debates

A third illustration of Andh Bhakt behavior is the party's failure to address the complex issues in Kashmir, despite being in power both at the state and central levels. Bhakt supporters often avoid questioning the party on such critical matters. For example, the alliance with the Muslim League (PDP) in Kashmir, known for spreading division in the region, raises serious concerns. Yet, Andh Bhakts tend to gloss over these issues.

The lack of action against separatists like Muhammad Yasin Malik and Afzal Guru is another point of contention that Bhakts often overlook. Additionally, the failure to repeal Section 370, which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, has been a point of criticism. Despite the BJP's control, these issues have not been effectively addressed, and Bhakt supporters seem to accept it without question.

Moratorium on Flaws

Every political party has its strengths and weaknesses. Andh Bhaks, in their fervent support, often ignore these flaws. However, mere voting does not make someone a Bhakt. The decision to vote may be influenced by factors such as no better alternative, alignment with the party's priorities, or the party's stance on various issues like development and corruption.

While Bhaks may be open to debating the party's shortcomings, Andh Bhakts tend to perceive such discussions as attacks on the party. This blind support often stems from a deep emotional and ideological bond, rather than a rational evaluation of the party's performance.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the difference between voting for the BJP and being an Andh Bhakt lies in the willingness to critically evaluate the party's actions and policies. While voting for a party is a matter of personal choice, maintaining a balanced perspective and being aware of the party's shortcomings is a sign of true Bhakt support.
